investigate the situation before making big announcements to top executives. What exactly is the defect? What harm will the defect cause? Can it injure the user? How many defective products
have been made? How many have already been sold? The answers to these questions give the individual data and information to provide to the executive board. There is a
priority in terms of action. Any product that can cause illness or injury must be addressed first. They must be removed from store shelves. A brilliant example of this was
the Tylenol issue several years ago. Someone had tampered with the product. The company wasted no time in having all Tylenol removed. A more recent example was Excedrin and this
was quickly removed from shelves. Every day there are recalls on different products. More often than not, the manufacturers knew of the defect and chose not to announce it to
the public. In 2005, ReNu with Moisturloc contact lens solution was contaminated with a fungal infection. More than 700 people were exposed to the solution, seven had to have an
eye removed and 60 had to have corneal transplants (American Association of Justice, 2011). Bausch & Lomb, the manufacturer, had been receiving complaints from foreign markets for more than a
year. The big Firestone tire scandal eventually killed 271 people. The company knew there was a problem in 1998 and did nothing about (American Association of Justice, 2011). The best
way to announce it to the public is to be honest. Tylenol quickly built up their business again after their investigation and putting the product back on the market. With
