In theory this process sounds logical and it may be expected that it is easy to assess the potential of any strategy, but the reality is different, there are many constraints on the decision making process, including issues such s bounded rationality as well as the difficulty in identifying areas of knowledge which are lacking. Large companies, as well as small companies, face difficulties with this. It may be argued that Disney is a good example that demonstrated the way that decision may be made without full knowledge or assessment, resulting in some long term issues. Disney has had a checkered history, and following some difficulties Michael Eisner became CEO in 1984. The companys fortunes changed under this CEO who turned the company around and increased profits. Many of his decision were economically driven by his financial background. However, the decision making process itself may be considered terms of its completeness and effectiveness. There were two main strategic decision which were made that came to fruition in the 1990s; the creation of a Disney theme park in Europe and the acquisition of Capital Cities/ABC. Thee were very different decision and can be examined in order to determine the way that the company made decision and assess the effectiveness of these decisions.
