and success for businesses. Decreased demand for goods and services has forced many companies to contemplate what steps they need to take and what changes they need to implement.
Deciding on methods of change in a work environment, whether drastic or minor, results in frustration on all levels of businesses. Team relations and continuity is even harder
to maintain in times of change. Compound this with the progression of expectations of the workforce, and the result is discontinuity between team members and business hierarchies. 21st
Century Work Environment The developments and changes in the 21st century have produced factors that necessitate companies to adapt in order to meet
the demand for competition, imperative for growth and stability. A catalyst factor is "the corporate need to be more competitive internationally and by the need for government agencies to
operate with shrinking budgets," (Yeatts, Folts, & Knapp, 1999). Not only do they have to grow, develop, and progress at increasing rates, but on a smaller budget. Companies
re-evaluated management models and changed the structures to decrease levels of authority and the number of middle management positions. Flexibility became more of a necessity and expectation, requiring employees
