Discussion About the shows: "Samantha Who" appears on ABC at 9.30 p.m. Monday nights. Its preceded by "Dancing with the Stars" and followed by "The Bachelor: London Calling" which are both reality shows. It seems very odd to have a half-hour sitcom sandwiched in between these two; well see if we can figure out why the network has done this. "Samantha Who"s competition on NBC is another reality show, "American Gladiators." Only on CBS is there a direct competitor, another half-hour sitcom, "Rules of Engagement." At first glance, none of this makes any sense, but then were talking about TV here. "Samantha Who?" is a half-hour situation comedy starring Christina Applegate as a young woman who has amnesia as the result of a car accident; she is functional and back at work but has no memory of her previous relationships and other important facts about her life. As she finds out more about herself, she realizes she doesnt like the person she was, and she looks on her amnesia as a second chance, a way to start over and become the person she would like to be (88888888888888 A "situation" comedy takes its humor from the situations in which the characters find themselves, and so it is here. Samantha is apparently in love with one man but agrees to marry another; her girlfriend is mad at her because shes after the second man for herself; the boss is a goofball; her parents are pushy and so on.
