travelers who are moving following the Black Plague. They are stories that consider human nature, death, desire, and love. They are deceptive stories and stories that involve both men and
women in a world of change. The following paper compares two women from two different stories. The women compared are the woman in Novel XI of Decameron, and the woman
in the Wife of Baths tale from Canterbury Tales. Wife of Baths Story In this story we have a knight who has been accused of raping a woman.
His punishment is to seek out the answer to what women want. If he discovers the answer, laid down by the queen, then his life will be spared. He travels
and finds a witch who tells him that she will give him the answer of what women want if he promises to marry her after he is granted freedom by
the queen. He agrees to this for he has little choice. She tells him that what women want is to essentially be the boss. He takes this answer to the
queen and she agrees that this is the correct answer. He returns to the witch. The following portion of the tale is as follows: "On their wedding night; he turns
away from her. She asks him what is the matter. He answers that she is old and ugly and low born. The old woman demonstrates to him that none of
these matter -- especially noble birth, since true gentilesse depends on deeds rather than birth. She offers him the choice: he can have her old and ugly and faithful or
young, beautiful, and possibly unchaste. He tells her to choose; he grants her the sovereignty. When he does so she turns into a beautiful maiden, and they live thereafter in
