a time of social, economic and political struggles in many respects. Technology was beginning to truly make an impact in the nation, and Reagan was President of the United States.
It was a time when the world would soon see the end of the Cold War, but was still immersed in this power struggle between the Soviet Union and the
United States and it was a time when AIDS became incredibly evident in society. The 1980s were, to say the least, a time of many struggles and conditions. The following
paper examines the Decade of Greed, the 1980s. Decade of Greed: 1980s "Looking back on the so-called decade of greed, its
easy to forget how lean the early 80s actually were. In 1981, the Census Bureau reported that more than 30 million Americans were living in poverty - the highest level
in 15 years" (Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 1999). There was an urgency in the nation and a desire to get rich quick, something that many believed possible with the economic, and
social, arrival of the lottery which began to spring up all around the nation (Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 1999). As mentioned, Ronald Reagan was President of the United States and although
he claimed "it was morning in America," and he introduced us to the trickle down theory involving economics (which promised that people on the lower rungs of society would ultimately
see more economic success) (Seattle Post-Intelligencer, 1999). Also as mentioned, technology was quickly taking the nation by storm. By the
