is a very intricate, yet simple, play that can be explicated from many angles, and yet a play that rings powerfully true in relationship to the struggles of many common
individuals who believe in the American Dream. The following paper summarizes and analyzes aspects of the play. I Millers play is a play about a man who is married,
has two grown children and a wife. He has ignorantly and shallowly followed the American Dream, believing that he could become a success and remembered by just working hard. His
name is Willy Loman and he is a failure. He is not a very deep man and yet at this point in his life is slowly coming to realize that
his dreams were all wrong. He ultimately kills himself so that his family can get the insurance money and in doing so he hopes he can mean something, or leave
them something of value. II As mentioned, the main character is Willy Loman. He is a salesman, as the title suggests and he feels he should be
more than he is after all these years at his job. His motive is the American Dream which will leave a legacy for himself and his family as well. His
wife Linda is a very supportive, almost too supportive, wife who is always there for Willy. In many ways she may well be protecting him too much, telling the sons
to be careful because of how Willy is feeling, and never letting Willy see that she may well think he has been a failure too. Her motive it to protect
and nurture her husband. Willys sons are two very different characters yet they both possess qualities of their father. Biff is the most rational of the two and he
