people have their own view of religion and a unique spiritual outlook on life and death. This may or may not be consistent with their environment. The paper examines
various ways that cultures treat death from rituals performed to how the concept of death is embraced. In Brazil for example, it is shown that this culture promotes a fear
and distance to death whereas Mexican culture does quite the opposite by embracing death as a normal part of life. Understanding how death translates in different cultures can help people
in various fields such as nursing, social work and the funeral business. Death is a
subject in some western countries that is negated. It is brushed aside and when people have to deal with it, they are completely lost. They are in shock for quite
some time and while the experience of loss is a human experience, it is also a cultural one. Some cultures have a matter of fact attitude about death. They embrace
it as a part of life. Obviously, death is inevitable so that is a good attitude. At the same time, there are cultures that deny death and try to defy
it. In the United States for example a great deal of money is spent on prolonging life. Every minute counts. When death occurs, it is a great loss for all.
Latin American countries have their own customs and ideas about death and dying, and life and the afterlife. In examining Brazil, Mexico, Cuba and Puerto Rico, these cultures share
