without adequate staffing. Why does this happen? The obvious answer is downsizing. Companies no longer have as many people to spare for projects. Yet, if the results are not going
to be good, why bother doing something labeled a death march? Yourdon (2004) believes that organizations would not have tolerated such projects in the past, but today in the twenty-first
century, there is an increased level of competition. In other words, computer programmers must step up their game in order to compete in this global economy. A student may want
