Disney TV series. John Wayne played him in The Alamo as did Billy Bob Thornton in the most recent film about the epic battle. Davy Crockett, in other words, has
assumed the status of a legend in the American consciousness, but who was he? Biography: The Davy Crockett Birthplace Association provides this biography of him. He was born August 17,
1786, which means that the information we have on him may not always be accurate, simply because of the length of time that has passed since he lived. At any
rate, the Association tells us he was born in a cabin on the Nolichucky River near Limestone, Tennessee (Davy Crockett). He was the "fifth of nine children and the fifth
son born to John and Rebecca Hawkins Crockett"; the family is described as independent and self-sufficient (Davy Crockett). Crocketts grandfather moved from North Carolina to what is today East Tennessee
