where his parents had been moved to escape the bombing of London" (University of Cambridge, 2006). He was apparently a very good student in all subjects but was seen as
incredibly intelligent in the field of mathematics by one particular teacher and as such he dropped his other subjects and took "A-levels in double mathematics and physics" (University of Cambridge,
2006). In 1961 he entered into St. Johns College and gained incredible grades in "Parts I and II of the Mathematical Tripos. He then made the conscious decision not to
stay on for Part III but to teach mathematics at the Woolwich Polytechnic (now the University of Greenwich)" (University of Cambridge, 2006).
While he was there he taught many different areas of study in mathematics and according to many authors, also learned how to teach in classrooms where students were less
than thrilled to be there. He was apparently often faced with students clad in leather with knives (University of Cambridge, 2006). It was also while he was there that he
met John Ffowcs Williams, who said of Crighton, as it related to that time in Crightons career, that "He was at the top of the Polytechnics career grade within a
year of starting, and he was 23 years old. He needed a bigger challenge" (Williams [1], 2000). Williams notes that he was incredibly interested in math, research, and how math
could be used to solve everyday problems, but he was not interested in returning to Cambridge (Williams [1], 2000). Crighton moved on
