Now and in the future, the database uses its historical data to identify trends and new business opportunities that lead the well-managed organization to greater competitive advantage, greater efficiency and more favorable overall business results. Considerations There is a wealth of information "hidden" in the transactions of any organization, and astute marketers need to make use of that information. Data contained in the database must be reliable and accurate, and it is the database managers role to ensure that the contents and function of the database meets these requirements. Data warehousing and data mining have worked to turn large databases into behemoths, but smaller organizations typically have not been able to take advantage of such data use. Yager (2000) reports that nearly all organizations expect more from their databases today. The database of the past has been a repository of past events, a record of organizational history in several areas. "But these days we expect more from our database servers than mere data storage and acquisition.
