Data warehousing is something which has become increasingly utilised over the
past few years, especially by those companies and organisations which not only need to handle large quantities of data, but also need a framework which is capable of continuous growth
and expansion in order to meet the needs of users.
There are a number of ways in which
a list of companies can be obtained, depending on the information sources which are available to the researcher. For example, trade literature is one way of compiling lists of companies
which offer a particular service or practice: in addition, most companies will advertise their services through a variety of different media.
However, if the service or form of organisational structure which is
being sought is connected with information technology, as is the case here, then the most efficient way of locating such companies is by using the World Wide Web. It is
possible to search for organisations both by their location and by the services they offer, and since firms which advertise via the Internet offer email addresses at which they can
be contacted, this is evidently a quicker and more effective way of establishing contact with them than by using the postal system.
