about the afterlife was finished in the year of his death, and in this we can also draw many conclusions from Dantes beliefs and the comparison with his life and
his hopes for the after life. In this work there are three realms of the Christian afterlife, Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (Purgatory), and Paradiso (Paradise). The theme of light being associated
with divinity and guiding man can be seen through the entire work, but as with the light this caparison between light and divinity is stronger and more obvious the closer
the reader gets to Gods throne at the end of the work. His attitude to life and those he loved and admired make appearances, Virgil the Roman poet is his
guide in Hell and Purgatory and when moving in to the realm of Heaven, Beatrice, the woman he loved is his guide. The journey although in the afterlife is
also link to his real life as not only with Beatrice and Virgil does he meets people he knows or knows of, but through the three realms he also comes
across other he knows as well ads many mythical and historical figures, each one can be seen representing a particular virtue or fault. The work itself is also sub divided
into cantos, or verses, each section of thirty three, and it is Paradiso which we can be seen to hold the most hope for the after life, and in writing
this it may be that he was not communicating is beliefs, but his dreams in an attempt to convince himself, as he neared his own death, of a final reward
