Marx, Weber and Durkheim in the sociological field and uses cantos from "The Inferno" to illustrate this point. It also considers how Ser Brunetto influenced Dante and Montesquieu influenced Durkheim;
we will consider if the type of influence and its effect was similar. Discussion We begin by looking at our three sociologists and philosophers. Karl Marx is of course a
political thinker whose ideas founded an entirely new movement, communism. It is Marxs contention that all of life is a class struggle pitting the proletariat against the bourgeoisie (the workers
against the elite), and that the only way for workers to have a say in their own lives is to revolt against the upper classes. As the gap between workers
and bosses increases, Marxs theories seem increasingly attractive; unfortunately, the rebellion he advocates is a violent one, and most people stop short of endorsing this idea. Emile Durkheim is considered
by many to be the father of sociology, since it was he who applied rigorous methods to the disciple so that it became considered a science. He is probably best
known for his word on suicide. Weber probably best known for his work on suicide. Max Weber, like Durkheim, is considered one of the founders of modern sociology; his interests
were wide ranging, including the sociology of politics and the sociology of religion. If we are to put Dante in the same category as these great thinkers, we have to
examine his work to see how closely it parallels theirs. Were using only Canto VIII and Canto XV of "The Inferno" as representative of Dantes work. Of course "The Inferno"
