the fact that they are considered the only rational, literate, spiritual, and truly intelligent and enlightened creatures and that generally human beings are not creatures but some supreme being.
In Daniel Quinns novel Ishmael the story revolves around lessons that human beings can learn from one creature. A great deal of the premise of the book is that human
beings are not above the natural world, that they are not somehow exempt from the natural realities that affect all creatures. The following paper argues that point as presented in
the novel. Daniel Quinns Ishmael: Man and Nature Throughout the novel there are many different philosophical ideas and ideals presented
but one primary thought is that man is not above the natural world, nor above the things that affect other creatures or the rest of the natural world. At one
point, for example, it is noted that, "The gods did not exempt man from the law that governs the lives of grubs" (Quinn 103). Most human beings would likely be
offended by such a statement if put differently. For example, if someone was told that they are no more than grubs in the world of nature and its laws the
person may be angered at such a statement for man is surely the greater of the species. Humanity has a tendency to
