practitioners. One of the more recent theories on this topic is Golemans theory of emotional intelligence. Goleman was not the first author who proposed that personal interaction and social interaction
skills were necessary for leaders and managers to succeed. He did, however, address it in a different way. He called it emotional intelligence. In 1995, Daniel Goleman published book entitled
"Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ for Character, Health and Lifelong Achievement." It was in this book that Goleman introduced the concept of emotional intelligence and asserted
that emotional intelligence was as important as knowledge, skills and cognitive intelligence for effective leadership (Goleman, 2004). In fact, he said that emotional intelligence is the "sine qua non of
leadership" (Goleman, 2004, p. 82). In a study of more than 200 organizations, Goleman found that emotional intelligence was twice as important as cognitive intelligence and technical knowledge (Schachter, 2009;
Webb, 2009). Schachter (2009) said that emotional intelligence accounts for at least 60 percent of the leaders success. From this study, Goleman identified different components of emotional intelligence. Goleman, Boyatzis
and McKee (2002) would later collect data from more than 4,000 executives. From this study, they identified six primary styles of leadership, which they called, visionary, affiliative, pacesetting, democratic, coaching
