many people take the topic of electrical safety for granted, thinking that the GFCIs will save them, and that homes are safe from electrical fire if appliances are turned off
when they leave their abodes. However, there are dangers that lurk and most people are unaware of these. Many of the dangers involve human error or misunderstandings. An important lesson
is that many of these mishaps can be prevented. There are small dangers that people do not give a second thought to such as the safety of nightlights. Nightlights
are for the most part quite safe. They cover the receptacle, but what many parents do not realize is that children are attracted to these small lamps. Electrical Safety Foundation
International has issued a warning regarding lamps and nightlights and includes the following directive: " A number of such lamps and night lights manufactured and sold today with cartoon- like
designs may have a toy-like appearance" ("Challenge To Parents: Nightlights and Lamps Are Not Toys," 2009). While it may seem to be common sense that children may not leave a
decorative night light alone, some parents may not think about this. Further, while parents baby proof their homes, once their children are toddlers or preschoolers they sometimes neglect to hide
outlets. A toddler for example may get a hold of keys or something metal and stick it in a socket. This is dangerous. There are other dangers that lurk
and many people are simply not aware of them. Many people today go to home improvement stores like Lowes or Home Depot and do projects themselves. They may end up
replacing a lamp or doing other work that involves electricity to an extent. This can be done safely as not every project requires the skills of a high priced electrician,
