Introduction In recent years, the focus on inclusion programming for students with physical and mental handicaps has resulted in the development of different programming options to address the needs of varied populations. For physical education and dance educators, the challenges for "differently abled" populations are many, but the focus on the basic instructional concepts remains essentially the same. One of the most substantive issues that has come to the forefront of the study of physical education is the link between teaching models and views of motor control and cognitive development for varied learner populations. It has been recognized that individual process and the development of motor control are linked to the integration of physical education skills and that successful teaching models take both creativity and cognitive and motor control functioning into consideration (Willis, 1995). For students with varying cognitive and physical challenges the adaptations in dance and physical fitness classes requires an understanding of the process by which individuals learn and adapt their motor skills. This project is designed to outline lessons and planning in physical education for a classroom that includes two students who are differently abled. This type of inclusion programming is the focus in many educational institutions and physical education educators must recognize the impacts of inclusion on educational planning for all students. This project, then, focuses on one physical education unit, a dance unit, and the instruction of varied learners in this setting.
