reflects the power of this one single artist. It becomes more intriguing when we realize that there is very little in the way of da Vincis work that exists for
us to view. One of his most powerful pieces is The Last Supper. The following paper examines and analyzes this painting. The Last Supper Leonardo da Vinci was
a man who generally painted when he needed to, in terms of painting for others and making a living. One author notes that he painted this particular painting "Because the
man who paid his wages requested he do so. Leonardo worked for Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan" and the Duke wanted him to paint "this particular religious scene...Leonardo, who was
not stupid, decided painting it made perfect financial sense" (Esaak, 2005). The painting itself measures 15 by 29 feet and is very large (Esaak, 2005). One of the things
that makes this work so fascinating is the composition of the painting. It is not simply several individuals laid out in a row, sitting at a table, but " Instead
of showing the 12 apostles as individual figures, he grouped them in dynamic compositional units of three, framing the figure of Christ, who is isolated in the center of the
picture" (Messengers of Light, 2005). There has also been recent discussion and controversy over one figure not being one of Jesus followers but really Mary Magdalen. This controversy has arisen
due to the work of Dan Brown and his book "The Da Vinci Code." While there is no way to know what the colors were exactly during the time
