movies today, the plot from Macbeth would surely hold its own among the top box office draws. Why? Many scholars have argued that it is the depth of character, the
intricate plot twists, or the good versus evil themes. However, it could also be stated that the use of dramatic effects, especially in Act Two, Scene two of the play,
Macbeth, and Act Four, play as great a role in determining the mood and overtones for the play, and contribute to its success as a play and storyline. Act
two, scene two of Shakespeares Macbeth, is the scene where Lady Macbeth is waiting for Macbeth to return from killing Duncan while he slept in his bedchambers. He returns to
Lady Macbeth, disturbed by what he has just done and states that he was unable to pray with the guards, and that he has just heard an unearthly voice telling
him that he would sleep no more. "sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep. Glamis hath murdered sleep, and therefore Cawdor Shall sleep no more"(Act II, Sc ii, li.24-26). Lady
Macbeth berates Macbeth because he has forgotten to plant the bloody knife on the guards as was the plan. She takes the knife from Macbeth and does this job herself.
While she has gone to do this, Macbeth, again imagines that he hears knocking and sees an image of a hand plucking out his eyes. Were this on a
Hollywood set, the special effects would be of an awesome magnitude to rival anything in a Stephen King movie. Here, the dramatic effects are the obvious workings of their minds
