recently that technology always promoted progress. And yet, when one stops to reassess what has been accomplished and when one tallies the cost of such accomplishments, the achievement dulls and
one begins to see that what truly promotes progress is the human mind, and not technology. But technology is merely a tool, the supporters claim. This may be so,
but consider that these tools have paved the way for the destruction of much that is inherently needed to sustain life on this planet. Mankind felt the need to get
from point A to point B faster so he created the automobile. This automobile required paved roads to run well; required a petroleum based fuel source; required large factories to
produce the parts need to construct them. Did mankind gain from this creation, this technology? Yes. Point A was quickly reached making it possible to ship goods, possible for people
to migrate where the jobs were better, and made it possible for the economy to have a new way to finance the development of more technology. Did mankind lose
anything because of this technology? Yes. Mankind would slowly lose a good deal of the land which once cleaned the atmosphere. Mans health would suffer on another count as he
would soon desire to take the car everywhere instead of walking, maintaining his own bodys requirements. Mans pursuit of the dollar would propel him to create more factories to produce
more of the same products which could be shipped to other countries so that the process could begin there. David Strong in his book, Technology the Good Life?, seems
