be discouraged. If one takes a close look at how this prevailing myth has failed to live up to its promises, then it is obvious that the practice of individual
freedoms should cease. The myth of equal opportunity: the disabled The myth of individual freedom actually existing in the United States is aptly illustrated
by the fact that a majority of those who live with disabilities are denied the resources which would allow them to become productive members of society. What this serves to
do, then, is to rob and deny society of a large segment of the population of the skills and talents of people who have physical limitations. The myth of equal
opportunity: racism Another prevailing and glaring ommision in the claims of individual freedoms success is the fact that minorities are still experiencing conditions which limit their
ability to advance and take advantage of opportunities which might elevate or advance them in their personal and professional lives. Racism is found in nearly every segment of society. Housing,
jobs, and education are just some of the areas which are affected by this practice. Given these evidences, alone, it becomes obvious that individual freedoms do not extend to everyone
