DNA in the first place. It does seem like a good idea. With a database of DNA, new crime scene DNA can be compared against what is found in the
database. Of course, Wisconsin is not the only state to address this issue. In fact, fifteen other states already do this as routine ("Getting at the truth," 2009). Yet, while
well meaning politicians who want to see an enhancement of the criminal justice system suggest that a DNA database is a good idea, some worry about the compromise in privacy
and the Constitutionality of it all. The concept does raise issues of privacy because DNA is not only an identifier, such as a fingerprint (Marley, 2009). DNA includes
data about the individuals genetic makeup (Marley, 2009). Like the science fiction film Gattaca, people worry that DNA will be used for purposes of classification. Today, people want to keep
their genetic information private because insurance companies could potentially deny coverage if someone has a certain genetic marker. Marley (2009) writes: "As an emerging technology, no one can know exactly
what information eventually can be gleaned from the DNA profiles law enforcement keeps." The bill to require DNA collection was proposed by Representative Ann Hraychuck and Senator Sheila Harsdorf
(Marley, 2009). Those opposed to the bill say that it would cost too much money and it would also invade the privacy of the people (Marley, 2009). One point
