the types of questions that could and could not be asked. Jennifer Carters problem is that two women in one of the
stores said their manager was making unwelcome sexual advances, threatening to fire one of them if she didnt play ball. There was also some possibility of age discrimination as well.
Is Jack Carters comment true that the company cant be accused of being discriminatory because "we hire mostly women and minorities anyway?" No.
Hiring practices and how the hires are treated at work are not the same thing. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commissions Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 is
pretty specific in that it prohibits discrimination in "hiring, promotion, discharge, pay, fringe benefits, job training. . . and other aspects of employment on the basis of race, color, religion,
sex or national origin" (EEOC.com, 2010). This means that simply hiring a minority or a woman doesnt let Carter Cleaning off the
hook when it comes to discriminatory practices. It means that no discrimination can take place from the moment the job applicant walks in to apply for a job, until the
moment that person leaves the companys employ. It means no asking offensive questions during the interview, no unwanted sexual advances or threats and definitely no questions to minority recruits about
