a toddler, with toddler tantrums, in the blink of an eye. Theyre known as difficult, tough to live with, hard to figure out.
But there are some very good reasons for this. On the one hand, theyre physically, cognitively and emotionally moving from childhood to adulthood, which is a perilous journey. Adolescence
is the bridge between childhood and dependency on parents and birth home, and adulthood, which assumes a measure of independence from the place of birth. The prospect - plus all
of the physical changes going on - can be terrifying. Its no wonder, then, that adolescents are so unpredictable. Adolescence, in
its most basic form, is the path that children take before they hit adulthood. For most people, children move through four or five stages between being helpless babies and becoming
full-functioning adults (Borgen and Amundson, 1998). In this final stage, children begin making more mature decisions about the people they want to hang out with, what they might want to
do to earn a living and even what to buy with their own money (Borgen and Amundson, 1998). During this phase, adolescents also learn more about intimacy (emotional and, many
times, physical), exploration and vocational goals (Borgen and Amundson, 1998). Physical Development Adolescence is typically when things feel as though theyre
