work, The Meditations, he poses the dilemma of doubting what he had commonly believed as a child. His skepticism is most palpable throughout the first meditation and through rational thought and logical processes he utilizes the rest of the Meditations to come to his final conclusions on the matter. Some years ago I was struck by the large number of falsehoods that I had accepted as true in my childhood, and by the highly doubtful nature of the whole edifice that I had subsequently based on them. I realized that it was necessary, once in the course of my life, to demolish everything completely and start again right from the foundations if I wanted to establish anything at all in the sciences that was stable and likely to last (Descartes,17). Having posed the problem, he is led to another problem: how does he go about disproving that what he believed as a child is wrong? In order to prove these truths he must disprove his current knowledge and the way in which that was obtained. Employing his method of reasoning, which calls his Method of Doubt, he tests every concept that does not hold up under verifiable circumstances. According to Descartes a human being used his facilities to gain knowledge of his own world. No one would particularly argue with this, except, that ones definition of reality may not be the definition of anothers definition. And, it can be further stated that the senses utilized in drawing a conclusive evidence to the mind about the world, may not be the same facilities that another used to perceive the world.
