are created equal -- is the key to a stable society that is economically sound. For proof of this particular stage, people proudly point to the United States of America,
purported to be a democracy, and with and fairly strong economy (though as of late, a weakened dollar) and a process that is second to none in terms of national
stability. Because of democracy, its implied, free market conditions reign. Almost anyone who grows up in the U.S., its also implied, has the ability to get rich, to make a
name for him or herself. Immigrants also have the chance -- look at Arnold Schwarzegger. From an Austrian immigrant, he became a famous body builder, actor and eventually, governor of
California. Yet some experts are backpedaling on this thought -- noting that democracy is such a nebulous thing and (more or less) controlled
by governments, economic development is more a sure path to a nation-states development. Again, examples can be pointed to here -- the fact that its a lot easier for a
nation-state to be developed economically and socially, and that such development spills over into the population (especially in a free market society). Again, there is some precedent for this --
after close to half a century of communist rule, when communism fell in the Soviet Union, to be replaced by provisional governments among the different states, supporters of democracy were
jubilant, expecting that a free-market economy would be ushered in because the people would now have the choice. The problem here, however, was that Russia, as among the largest of
the former Soviet states, stumbled about, confused in terms of what could be classified as free market. Because of the confusion, a market developed all right -- a black market
