gone beyond simply being a search engine, and is moving into other areas including forums and Web portal businesses. The question asked here is whether under the Delta Model of
Management, Google should stick to its core business or expand more into auxiliary operations such as software development and e-commerce. To better
formulate an answer, it would first be a good idea to understand both what the Delta Model is about, and then examine what Googles mission statement is. By comparing the
two, we should be able to come up with an answer to this question. First lets look at Googles mission. Its pretty
broad, and can be summed up in one statement: "Googles mission is to organize the worlds information, and make it universally accessible and useful" (Google Inc., 2008). Under this particular
mission statement, almost anything can go, whether it be online or off-line or nothing to do with computers and the Internet. Needless
to say, the first thing that comes to mind when discussing Google Inc. is search engine, and this is what Google is still best-known - a free service that
returns a boatload of information very quickly (Google Inc., 2008). Google has other ways to "organize the worlds information," including the Google
Toolbar (a type of software), and use from a number of wireless platforms including WAP and I-mode phones (Google Inc., 2008). Google also has special pages that offer up satellite
images (Google Earth); photos and art (Google Images) and stock quotes and news headlines (Google News). Ultimately, however, none of these deviates from the basic mission of Google, which is
