that YOU were born? If your birthday was June 1, 1976, for example there are a number of things that were to occur at the same time of your birth.
In the pages of the New York Times, for example, three of the critical stories of the day involved the creation of a new vaccine against Malaria, Veterans celebrated the
day with parades, and minorities were still experiencing prejudice in nearly every facet of life. June 1, 1976 saw Rockefeller University produce the first vaccine against Malaria. The World
Health Organization stated that though the early results are promising, they cannot say for certain if this is the long awaited vaccine, or just another good attempt. Of course, history
would later show that this was indeed the vaccine for which the world had waited. The Times article, "Hope Rises that a Vaccine Against Malaria May Become a Reality",
written by Walter Sullivan, states that Malaria, while not a significant threat to the United States or Europe any longer, there are numerous countries around the world who still suffer
greatly from Malaria. It is thought that in curtailing the incidences of Malaria in these countries that the disease may be eradicated completely. Elsewhere, on June 1st, 1976 the
Times reported on the Veterans Day Parade which had happened the day before in New York. In various sections of the city celebrations were held, both poignant and patriotic. For
example, a hundred veterans marched up Riverside drive and laid a wreath of red and white carnations at various soldiers monuments, then stated in a speech that remembering ones fallen
