hydrocholoride. Being that it is a relatively new drug there is still a great deal to learn about it. The following paper presents a general overview of the drug, describing
its category, indication, side effects, good benefits and bad benefits, and other relevant information about the drug. Cymbalt Duloxetine, or cymbalta, is a drug used to treat mental
depression. However, it is interesting to note that it has also been used to treat pain from nerve damage that is often associated with diabetes (Edwards, 2004; 71). It is
a member of medicines that are known as "selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These medicines are thought to work by increasing the activity of a chemical called serotonin in the
brain" (USP DI-Volume II, 2005; 21113). It is taken orally and "had an elimination half-life of about 12 hours" (Fax; 2). Within three days it appears as though there
is a balance built up within the system, which perhaps makes it a drug of choice for some who do not wish to wait weeks for results (Fax; 2). In
addition this is perhaps one of the reasons why this drug is considered to be a break through drug. As for who should and should not be taking this
drug one author notes that it has not been studied in pregnant woman. They claim that "Duloxetine should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefit outweighs the potential
risk to the baby" (USP DI-Volume II, 2005; 21113). As for women who are breast feeding, studies have indicated that the drug is passed through the milk of mice in
testing but that it is not know if the drug passes in human milk. As such it is not recommended that women who are breast feeding take this drug (USP
