may fill a gap in the market, but the customers did not need them, as they were not aware of them. Therefore the need that are met may already exist,
or may be created. However, whichever model is accepted there is the need to understand what it is that the customer wants, and not what it is the company assumes
that the customer will want. This paper will consider how to maximise the concept of customer value. 2. Methodology A large number of marketing ,models have been developed with regard
to initial product development to find what it is the customer wants. If we look to the value of customer value then we first need to define counter value and
then look at how it can be created and measured by looking at different theories. The main method of research for this paper is the use of academic and industry
secondary sources. These will give a clear outline of the various theories that we can apply to any give case. In this paper we will be applying the theory to
a supposed service company that is a strategic business unit of a larger company. 3. Analysis It is the idea of meeting customer needs that are behind many models from
TQM to Porters idea of competitive advantage. Porter argues that for a company to be successful they have to have a competitive advantage. Differentiation is the advantage aimed at businesses.
