develop curriculum policies and provide financial support. However, this effort also serves to put into words a comprehensive curriculum vision, while identifying educational goals and the core program of studies
(PPP presentation). This planning effort also serves to select instructional materials and methods for assessing student learning, as well as provides needed technical support (PPP presentation). Planning efforts on the
district-level also include soliciting both teacher and community involvement, providing professional development for principals and evaluating types of curriculum available as well as the developmental process in and of itself
(PPP presentation). The School District of Palm Beach County has a well-articulated mission statement that offers a concise, yet visionary goal for the district. This statement indicates
that the district is "committed to excellence in education and preparation of all our students" (School District). The school district then lists specific goals pertaining to specific areas, such as
increased literacy, student performance, school safety and environment, challenging curriculum and staff development (School District). In each instance, a brief explanation shows that denotes how this category is perceived and
the goals that are applicable to it. For example, the district board specifies the goal to implement a "challenging curriculum" that includes both individualized methods and group instruction that
