Today, before executives of a firm think about terminating an individual, or saying something untoward, the law is examined. One can begin to see why the role of HR has evolved. In some way today, HR is a police dog as in the past, it was something that simply made life easier for employees. Personnel Departments in earlier decades would simply take down information and make sure that paychecks were correct. They performed a variety of mundane tasks of a similar nature. Things are a bit different today. Human Resource personnel today are professionals. They recruit and counsel employees and deal with complicated legislation. A student notes that the purpose of HR is to balance the needs of the employees with that of the organization. Indeed, the Human Resources Departments look out for both the employee and the employer and mitigate any conflicts. According to the student, while there are many facets of the function of HRM, a great deal of attention is focused on technology, globalization, e-business, diversity and ethics. One way that HR departments have changed is aligned with technology, but of course, this is true for most any businesses or any department.
