The people in the United States went through a very vibrant stage during the 20s because of this and many other reasons. But, at the same time it was also a very rebellious and difficult time for many. The following paper examines the culture of the 1920s through various articles and through advertisements. Overview of the 1920s "The decade of the 1920s is often characterized as a period of American prosperity and optimism" (James Madison College, 2005). It was also a time of great consumer desires as the American Dream turned from nobility and honor and hard work to one that only promised material wealth for hard work. It was a time of home made alcohol, prohibition, the beginning of the automobile in a very real way in the nation (James Madison College, 2005). Women began to dress more relaxed and perhaps more revealing and college students were always, it seems, involved in one kind of strange prank or test or another. The 1920s saw the real advent of the moving picture, as well as the very first flight across the Atlantic Ocean (James Madison College, 2005). "It is often seen as a period of great advance as the nation became urban and commercial (Calvin Coolidge declared that Americas business was business)" (James Madison College, 2005).
