development. It is often argued that where there is the demand or supply of migrant workers bringing a different culture with them, that the best policy is one of integration
(B?hning and de Beijl, 2001). The migrant workers will bring with them their own culture and in the past there have been concerns over the impact of the retaining of
that culture and the risk of culture clashes (Rex, 1994). The resolution to this was often seen as integration, with the individual and the society in which they entered coming
closer together with closer values less likely to cause a clash (B?hning and de Beijl, 2001). However, in more recent years there have been arguments that it is the differences
that can be beneficial, as long as they do not cause ration and are understood. If we look at the culture of recent migrant workers to the UK and the
way culture is dealt with and develops a model of diversity and compromise can be seen, but it is not a model of total integration.
Integration was argued as in the interests of the state in which the migrant resided (B?hning and de Beijl, 2001). It is seen as a way of
avoiding clashes in political or social ideals (Rex, 1994). However, this does not mean there is total, or even partial integration in many cases of integration, indeed, many migrant workers
and their families are now more able to remain in touch with their former cultures that even as a result of developing communications technology, such as the internet (Thompson, 2002).
