as having a very powerful impact on any innovation within the culture. The following paper examines this statement and focuses on how national culture does not necessarily have an impact
on innovation. Culture and Innovation In first understanding how innovation is, or is not, related to a nations culture, we first examine what innovation is. Innovation is, in
many ways, nothing more than new ideas and designs. It generally applies to a new way of doing something, using new materials for old designs, materials that are more productive,
perhaps less expensive, and generally thought to be improvements on old designs or methods. One author presents us with the following in relationship to innovation: "Innovation is not mainly about
new ideas. It is also (and mostly) about carrying these out into practice. Most innovations are done in firms though innovations may also occur in other type of organizations (such
as public hospitals for instance). Innovations are not always welcome; the not invented here syndrome is a characteristic feature in many settings" (University of Oslo, 2005). In this we
see that innovation is more often than not, something that is associated with businesses, corporations, companies that strive to make improvements to designs or products or methods of engagement. However,
innovation is not just limited to corporations and such. Innovation is something that can come from one person, alone in their garage, or something that can come from several people
together who have no affiliation with any company or corporation. Innovation, according to Merriam-Websters dictionary, means, "the introduction of something new" or "a new idea, method, or device" (Merriam-Webster,
