1. Introduction For many years marketers have sought to understand the influences that are presence within the purchase decision, this understanding increased the potential effectiveness of marketing campaigns, as
understanding may increase the ability of the marketers to impact in that division making process. Many influences have been considered, one of the most influential, and often over looked is
that if culture. There are many examples of this, using semi clad women to sell cars to a market target market in western countries may be politically incorrect, but it
is acceptable, whereas this would be totally unacceptable and viewed as obscene, as well as illegal in many Muslim countries. Likewise, there are some products that are specific to certain
markets, tinned crickets are unlikely to be popular in western countries, but are acceptable in the Far East. These differences reflect cultural influences and demonstrate the way there are influences.
It may be argued that culture is often a barrier to international marketing due to the ways that culture manifest, the associated
values and the way that this may lead to different interpretation. Further to this there is also the need to consider subcultures with these cultures, where there may be
influences that impact on the way marketing is perceived and received that will then impart on the purchase decision. 2. Elements of Culture
