Cultures have a direct impact on the productivity of the employees and on the organization itself. Fine (2006) discussed the importance of the corporate culture of medical device companies. This industry is heavily regulated by the FDA and most specifically the FDA Quality System Regulation, the European Union Medical Device Directive, and the ISO 13485 quality management system (Fine, 2006). All must be embedded in the corporate culture. The first step in assuring a culture of quality and safety in any industry is management commitment (Fine, 2006). Management commitment guides the attitudes toward safety and quality in the company because managers convey to employees the dedication of the company to adhere to the regulations through the companys goals and mission (Fine, 2006). The management and executive levels establish quality and safety as part of the daily culture of the company. Every activity is designed in such a way that safety and quality are guaranteed. Managers and executives become broken-records in that they constantly promote how important quality is to meet the needs of customers as well as how important safety is to the customer and to the employees. Compliance with all the regulations guarantees safety. Another leadership strategy is to offer training and education for all employees (Fine, 2006). This type of training focuses on quality compliance as well as safety compliance (Fine, 2006). Reinforcing these principles is another important part of the process of developing a culture of quality and safety.
