is because of this very distinct separation that gender laws are the direct result of cultural influence. One can readily argue how the
issue of gender - the entire social, political and economic aspect - is due directly to the cultural construct of patriarchy. While some countries like the United States have
overcome a significant amount of such oppressive gender control, others in lesser-evolved societies continue to persecute women under the guise of male dominance. Moreover, the male and female genders
bear many differences when it comes to their respective mental, emotional and physical states. Typically - and some say only because of cultural indoctrination - men and women, boys
and girls each have their own set of standards by which they live, effectively and ultimately maintaining a certain degree of gender compliance. "Even when there is a formal
equality of women in their political rights as citizens, other modes of exclusion in the political, social and civil spheres continue to operate" (Yuval-Davis 621).
