term (by 57%), no doubt much to the chagrin of Adlai Stevenson. Yet, it should not be surprising that he was re-elected when one examines the sociological climate of
the day. If for no other reason - considering the plethora of mind-reeling events bombarding the US citizenry, certainly some of those Eisenhower votes must have been cast simply
to maintain the status quo. It wasnt so much that change was a scary thing for Americans - historically weve always been known to have grit to spare.
It was more a matter of there being just too much going on at one given time. On the whole 1950-1960 was a 10-year block of time when the average
American was being bombarded on all sides by innumerable, significant events that one needed to form an opinion about fairly immediately (Adlai Stevenson Governor of Illinois, 2001 and See
