boundaries are eroded and cultural perspectives are beginning to coalesce into a universalized multi-cultural perspective. In some arenas, this may well be the case. For instance, there is certainly growing
consensus among nations about the nature of war crimes and a willingness to enter into treaties that mutually ensure abstention from what is viewed as a heinous practice. This is
but one example, however, and even it does not portray as universal a view as many might like to believe. The reality is that, even in the 21st century, culture
is more fragmented and opposed than ever before. Differing cultural views still undermine many of the most progressive ideological viewpoints, much to the chagrin of advocates of the globalized perspective.
For evidence of this reality, one need look no further than the continued diplomatic difficulties stemming from a division of cultural perspectives between the United States and the Middle East.
If it were the case that cultural perspectives had truly begun to coalesce, what can account for these and other truly tragic "misunderstandings"? Given that basic cultural values can differ
from one culture to the next, the significance of such a conclusion can be downright staggering. Cultural values have a tendency to express themselves in a huge variety of forms
