and abilities. This paper will explore the importance of respecting cultural dimensions in the organizational context. This paragraph helps the student introduce the hypothetical scenario for this paper. In order
to better understand the principles of cultural sensitivity in business, it can help to look at this issue through the lens of a hypothetical example. Suppose that one were informed
by ones manager that one had been appointed to a new position within the firm: a position at one of the firms foreign branches. Knowing what challenges awaited, the manager
might well caution one to approach the task with a "heightened awareness" of the differing cultural expectations that are necessary in order to achieve rapport and success with individuals from
foreign countries. In preparing to assume such an organizational role, one would do well to study the cultural dimensions theory. Developed in the 1980s, when international business first underwent a
major surge, the cultural dimensions theory is a model through which different countries and cultures can be placed into meaningfully differentiated categories on the basis of values; the six values
that inform the dimensions across which cultures are measured and compared are power, collectivism, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity, temporal orientation, and indulgence (Hofstede, 1984). For the purposes of this analysis, one
