Islamic in terms of its religious affiliation. Several facts must be kept in mind when dealing with Moroccan Muslims in particular. First, there is a definite separation in
gender roles. The female often takes a subservient position in this culture when compared to modern Western culture. Interactions between males and females occur in accordance with cultural
protocol. It is not appropriate in many instances, for example, for a male from the outside to discuss sensitive matters such as health with a female Moroccan. Even
nonverbal communication such as eye contact can be severely misinterpreted in some instances (Arnold, 2003). Dress is another important consideration when dealing with traditional Moroccan patients. Female Moroccans
are often much more private in terms of exposure of their body. For a male physician to examine these women, or for a female physician to examine a male
patient, would be a serious cultural transgression. Topics such as sex are strictly forbidden between the opposite sexes in many instances (Arnold, 2003). Furthermore, the educational attainment of
its citizens can vary greatly. Many, especially females, are illiterate. These are, however, just a few of the facts that can complicate the provision of care for some
Moroccan patients. Several more considerations will be outlined in the remainder of this paper. When Moroccans immigrate to other countries they, as
might be expected, carry many of their traditions and viewpoints with them. It is consequently important that medical personnel in this new country recognize the fact that traditional peoples
