The benefits are many. Biology lends an understanding of why changes occur physically or behaviorally within the human population, and this then leads to an understanding of the
social ramifications of those changes. For example, as behaviors and/or physical attributes change within society, there is typically a very noticeable change within other aspects of that society as
well. Lets say that biologically humans have adopted certain sexual behaviors over the course of time. Obviously, from the perspective of the cultural anthropologist this is important and
interesting as well. So, while the biologist may struggle to determine how and why these changes have taken place, the cultural anthropologist will seek to determine the impact of
these changes. Therefore, these two disciplines coexist very well. Critique of Harris and Johnsons definition of culture: I believe Harris
and Johnsons definition of culture is an excellent one, primarily because it acknowledges the necessity for repetition. In other words, an individual or a group of people may do
something they deem to be very important and may believe it to be significant to the whole of their society however, unless the action of process is repeated by others
within that society, it is not something that integrates itself into the culture of the people. Many people must engage in the same thing in order for that thing
to become a part of culture. I believe the strength of Harris and Johnsons definition is the fact that it addresses
that which is socially acquired. Their definition assumes that culture is imposed in the social order and likewise a result of that order. However, what I do believe
