being primarily an underground comic artist and Basquiat being a graffiti artist of sorts, playing with the primitive in paint. Both of these men have had movies which depict particular
portions of their lives as well as particular portion of their lives as artists. In the following paper we examine the films independently, the films being titled "Crumb" and "Basquiat,"
discussing their approach to art, and analyzing the art that is presented within the films. The paper closes with a comparisons about the artwork and the artists in the films.
Crumb Robert Crumb, or as many people know him, R. Crumb, is an artist that presents his material primarily in the form of comics of one type or
another. Throughout his career as an artist it seems he has never really strayed from the comic book form. In the movie he credits this to his brother Charles who
it seems essentially forced the entire family, excluding parents, into forming a comic book organization of sorts. While his brother became more and more mentally ill, moving far from drawing
of any sort, Robert excelled and continued to express himself through his drawings. In this particular film we get a very good insight into the character of Crumb, for
he is the one telling us of his past and his art. He tells us that one time he took some drug that was supposedly LSD but he thinks it
may have been something else, for he remained in a fog for months after taking the drug. And, it was during this foggy period when he says a great many
