some other destinations in the Caribbean region. Certainly they do not attract visitors on the order of the Bahamas or St. Thomas. Part of the reason for this
is that they lay in the central region of the Caribbean and are not as accessible from the US mainland where most of their visitors originate. Both locations are
rich in natural beauty and are tourist-friendly; each gains approximately 45 percent of GDP from tourism each year. The following paper advocates a
cruise line venture that will specialize in weekend excursions between Puerto Rico and BVI. The shorter cruise has been the fastest-growing segment of the cruise industry over the past
25 years, and as vacations continue to shorten even shorter cruises of a weekends duration become more attractive to greater numbers of people.
Casino gaming and water sports are seen as creating weekend interest for tourists; focusing on each will ensure that the venture addresses the need for "something for everyone" with the
addition of standard ancillary cruise line activities. The post-9/11 recession and virtual halt of pleasure travel was devastating, but tourism has increased each
year following the terrorist attacks of 2001. Adding weekend accommodation capability should serve to increase tourism to much the same degree. Purpose
