acquisition can be problematic and depend on more than the financial evaluation and assessment of the companies involved; especially where the acquisitions or mergers are international. Where there is
a significant change in structure or management of a firm there will be a period of change, if this is within a merger or an acquisition there will be some
very visible difficulties, especially when it comes to managing the change and leadership. There are many examples of acquisitions and mergers that have taken place across international boarders which have
failed; BMWs acquisition of Rover, and the DaimlerChrysler merger are prime examples of the problems and the way that the merger and acquisition strategy, despite these dramatic failures the strategies
still continue. It appears that even where there is a good financial match that there is more than this to the creation of a successful merger or acquisition. In reality,
if success is measured by increased market value or increased profits then between 60% - 80% of all mergers are financial failures, and roughly 44% of acquired companies will be
subsequently sold on at a later date (Tetenbaum, 1999; 22). In the UK it is assessed that up to 50% of all mergers will fail (Trevail, 1998). Therefore, it may
be argued that the success of internationals mergers is not only dependent on the financial evaluation of the organizations involved but only is also dependant on leadership, communication and management
