Their work is important because it not only challenged so many traditional beliefs, but they have the knowledge and authority to back up their claims. Their research is exhaustive and delves into the heart of many important organizational issues. By applying their knowledge of both science and human nature, they arrive at conclusions that are poignant and revolutionary from a business perspective. Essentially, March and Simon developed many different ideas regarding patterns of behavior, especially in regard to communication within organizations. The results of their studies led to their having a huge influence on management theory. At its core, the work of March and Simon centered around the ability of human beings within organizations to solve problems and ways that they could do so more effectively. But the impact of their work goes far beyond this simply analysis. Their research and their experience contributed to many new ways of looking at the organization and ways in which the organization should develop and function. Together with March, Simon contests many traditional theories on administration, and asserts that they are essentially useless in terms of instigating action because they are far too vague to be of real use. For example, he believed that the belief that control should be minimized within an organization was in direct opposition to the view that the number of levels in an organization should be minimized.
