Discussion In the scenario provided, weve learned that "Nik" has landed her dream job right out of college and is going to spend at least a year on Kava, where the company she works for, Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA) wants to increase its presence on the island. Something of interest: the case is written so that its impossible to know the gender of those involved. "Nik" is identified as "her," but "Alex" could be either Alexander or Alexandra and "Chris" could be either Christine or Christopher. The narrative is very carefully written so that no pronouns are used that might give it away. At any rate, when she gets to Kava, Nik finds the following problems/issues. She will need to pick a decision-making technique to use in dealing with them and discuss why shes picked it using critical thinking. Then shell need to identify those factors that will make implementing decisions difficult and finally, evaluate any ethical implications of the solutions from the perspective of the stakeholders. The issues that confront Nik are: 1) the island has medical problems, specifically HIV/AIDS and avian flu; 2) the island is subject to natural disasters; 3) the island has inadequate means to protect its crops from disasters; 4) 50% of the population of the island is under age 15; and 5) REMSA wants to build tourism. The first thing Nik should probably do is prioritize these issues, and in fact they seem to be in order already.
